Austin's Road Construction

There seems to be construction projects occuring on every street and highway in the city of Austin. It is rare not to see a detour sign on a street corner these days. As I drove home from work the other day, I ended up in Round Rock and I live in Pflugerville. I could not take my usual exit due to road construction. There seems to be more road construction projects starting or in progress than there are projects that are actually finished. There was a project by my house that started in 2004 that took four years to finish. The rate of progress of these road construction projects are terrible. I am tired of the noise and hassle of construction on Austin roads.

I believe that the city needs to speed up the progress of the construction on the roads. I understand that the construction will eventually lead to a better developed city, but it does not mean that we are supposed to suffer. These projects are causing more irritations and frustrations to Austin citizens than providing assistance. The city of Austin could have made more efficient plans for these construction projects. I have never been in a city that has taken so long to finish their road construction projects. There are bigger cities that get construction projects finished faster than Austin.

The city needs to be more considerate of its citizens. These road construction projects are causing numerous problems such as road congestion, traffic and even accidents. Citizens are forced to adjust their lives due to these projects. They have to wake up early to avoid traffic or try to sleep through the noise of the construction, such as Bill Reaves. There is an ongoing construction project that has disturbed his neighborhood for years. The city needs to be more aware of the effects that these projects put on the lives of people in Austin.

I’m commenting on Mike Luong's blog about Austin’s road construction.
I agree with him 100%. It seems like today there are more and more roads being worked on and they are taking forever to complete. He made a good point about this being an inconvenience to the residents of this city. There have been numerous times that I had to drive out of my way to get somewhere because a road was closed for construction. I understand that the end result will benefit us, but they should speed up their work and not take on so many projects at one time. I live right behind the toll road by the Heatherwilde exit, which takes me to my neighborhood, and this exit was supposed to be finished by March 2008 and they just completed it last month. That’s what I call ridiculous. I also agree with Mike when he says that the city needs to be more considerate of its citizens. I’m not personally affected by the noise of construction going on around my neighborhood but I know a lot of people out there are. If I was one those people I would be pretty annoyed that I had to wake up to construction noise every morning. I know Austin is trying to fix our roads and make them better for us to drive on, but I believe they need a new method of doing this. They should only take on so many projects at one time before starting a new one. Overall, Mike did a really good job of getting his point across and expressing how he felt about this situation. He also provided excellent examples to back up his opinion.

Mike Luong's blog on Austin's Road Construction is about the hassle of construction projects in Austin. He states that the time it takes for these construction is ridiculously long. It is a big mess for people to maneuver around these sites because there are so many detours. Michael stated that he even had problems getting into his neighborhood to get home. That should not be happening to the citizens of Austin. Michael believes that the city of Austin should find a more efficient way to finish these construction projects faster.

I highly agree with Mike Luong’s blog. I understand that there needs to be roads constructed and fixed, but the time it takes to finish these projects is ridiculous. I drive on Loop 1 hoping that the next time I drive on it, the construction will be done. Unfortunately, I am disappointed every time. The traffic can be horrific especially during traffic hour. I was driving home one night from work coming North Bound on IH35 and I was stuck in traffic for about an hour because they only had one lane open. It’s hard having to deal with these issues on top of dealing with every other obstacle in life.

I think it is extremely unfair for those who live in neighborhoods that have construction surrounding them. No one wants to be woken up from their sleep early on a Saturday morning. I can barely handle my neighbor mowing their lawn let alone construction going on. The city should be more considerate of their citizens, especially because the citizens pay for taxes that fund these projects. I also agree with Mike when he says that the city needs to speed up the process of construction projects. It will make the lives of Austin citizens better; there will be no more traffic and interference with citizens‘ lives.
